Getting Into Comics Will Start Your Journey To Fun and Creativity and Intelligence?
It’s a great time to be getting into comics, because the days of looking down on comic geeks is coming to an end. It’s time to be getting into intelligent comics. Spurred on by the success of Marvel’s and DC’s movie properties, comic characters have taken the mainstream. Add to that the success of video games for consoles, the internet, and Facebook–the world is ripe for the new creators with new talents, and new stories to share. Who’s going to give it to them? I hope it’s you!
You can enter the comic world as a reader or as a creator. It has never been easier to be creating comics. There are a lot of sites that will let you create your own comics with click art. You can try to be an intelligent master creating comics techniques from so many masters of the past. You can even be creating comics art for the digital world for today’s comics with the many free graphics programs to use online creating comics. Reading intelligent comics has never been easier thanks to web comics, the ipad, and acceptance from schools and libraries to carry more of these “not so long ago taboo reading materials.”
But why does one want to be getting into comics in the first place?
COMICS TRAINING 1: FUN — No doubt about it — imagining you have spider powers, you can cripple bad guys, and have super strength is definitely a great way to spend a Saturday night. Fun is not just watching superheroes. Fun is getting to see up close and personal impossible situations, real solutions to problems, using our imagination, and seeing each and every image and text at our own pace. You can study the characters, their movement and their personalities. If they’ve welcomed us enough, we want to see more of them, like a new friend, or a movie star right in our house. But the real fun, as a parent, is knowing that our kids are getting the messages that we want our kids to have. I can be marketing comics all-day long with that goal in mind.
COMICS TRAINING 2: CREATIVE — Look at how creative comics are getting today. Not only superhero comics, but war veteran comics, cancer research comics, historical comics, cultural comics, political comics, celebrity comics, inspirational comics, civil comics. It is like a whirlwind of creative messages. The mere presence of pictures and images thrown together, That’s the stuff that children’s books are made of: one comic panel and text that leaves lasting impressions of values for generations. That’s what almost all ads are made of. Image and text. Now we have photography images in comics and even panels on our TV shows with in-screen TV functions. Everyone is trying to capitalize on the creativity of the comic medium to market comics and just about everything else.
COMICS TRAINING 3: INTELLIGENT COMICS — Intelligent comics? There has been many studies on the effects of too much television on kids and adults. And the average household watches way too much for what is good for us. But we keep watching because it’s on, and it’s entertaining. It’s such a powerful medium that we let it control us. What if there was a media outlet that allowed us to have entertaining programming at our fingertips, that allowed us to think, read, perceive, visualize and comprehend our own way to achieve an outcome? What if we could use our own mental thought processes to engage the content, rather than be told what to think? What if this media could not only increase our reading comprehension skills, but also allow us to learn anything our heart’s desire? What if we could also visit a modern exhibition at the local art museum every time we engaged it. This is why so many libraries, schools and businesses are reaching out marketing comics to their audiences and engaging them with the intelligent comics book medium.
