Best Comic Books Of All Time

There was a time when comic books were sort of considered a joke. For whatever reason, even though so many of the classic literary themes such as humanity, heroism, and overcoming insurmountable odds overlapped, the broader literary culture did not seem to regard it as a valid type of storytelling.

Time would come to demonstrate, however, that both shortsighted and asinine were this autocratic point of view. We’ve assembled this list of the best graphic novels out there right now with that in mind.

Best Comic Books Of All Time

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns

If you’ve seen the newly released Batman V. Superman movie, you should know that this Frank Miller-penned miniseries provided a lot of the inspiration behind that film. This graphic novel is also the first time Batman and Superman have gone toe-to-toe.

It also marked Batman’s reinvention into the gritty and dark hero that today we all know and love. This book is full of gruesome brutality, political satire, and social commentary that is as important today as it was when it was published in 1986. Just bear in mind.

Batman: Arkham Asylum

While some may think it blasphemous not to include The Killing Joke on our list of best graphic novels, in favor of this far more viscerally unnerving Batman tale, we are unabashed at our choice to leave out that dated story.

Jumping between time periods, this suspenseful thriller covers both the past behind Gotham City’s most notorious prison, Arkham Asylum, and its creator, as well as an incident that takes place on April Fool’s Day in which the institution’s worst inmates have escaped and taken it over. If that reminds you of a recent adaptation of a video game, you will be correct to believe it was inspired by this novel.

Kingdom Come

Kingdom Come is a pretty good start for fans of the DC universe if you like the concept of familiar characters but are still looking for a bit of a departure storytelling-wise. The plot follows an aged Justice League, written by Mark Waid and with beautifully drawn artwork from the masterful and iconic Alex Ross, as they have to wear their capes once again to protect the world from the same heroes who took over when they retired.

For a reason, this is one of the best-selling graphic novels of all time and if you love tales of superheroes, but still have to read them, now is the time.

So, these are some of the best-selling comic books of all time. We hope that the information provided here would be of help to you.
